The association provides a master policy that covers the common areas, all perils for your unit (walls, floors, roof, plumbing, electrical) and improvements you have made inside your unit.

You need to provide the following insurances:
-coverage for your personal belongings (furniture, clothing, appliances, etc)
-an additional $50,000 coverage for damage to other units/common areas (due to things like water damage) this is required by the association by-laws (see pdf's to the right)
-a possible stand-alone earthquake policy to cover loss of use, temporary housing (the association policy pays for damage to the unit)
WHAT TYPES OF INSURANCE DO I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR MY UNIT
PLEASE NOTE THAT IN MANY OF THESE DOCUMENTS IT STATES THE COVERAGE FOR DAMAGE TO UNITS IS $25000. AS OF NOVEMBER 2025 THAT AMOUNT HAS BEEN INCREASED TO $50000.
